Workforce Data Collection

Lifelong Learning UK is responsible for workforce data collection in the further education sector in England, comprising of further education colleges, national specialist colleges, adult and community learning providers and work based learning providers.

Background

Collecting and analysing workforce data adds significant value to the sector by building an understanding of the workforce. This has been identified as a priority as set out in the 'Workforce Strategy for the Further Education Sector 2008-2012'

Historically, the collection of workforce data in England took place through the Staff Individualised Record (SIR) process and applied to further education
colleges only.  Lifelong Learning UK has modernised the SIR data collection process previously undertaken by the Learning and Skills Council and in addition, we have developed a process through which it is possible to collect workforce data from national specialist colleges, work based learning providers and adult and community learning providers.
