Business Talent

'Business Talent' will support the development of a world-class management system for further education (FE) by encouraging experienced private and public sector managers to make the transition into senior management roles within the FE sector.

This programme will work with FE providers in England (including FE colleges, work based learning providers, providers of personal and community development learning and sixth form and specialist colleges providing vocational programmes) that are recruiting to a senior management vacancy. A strategic business review of the FE provider will be carried out to identify the skill set and personality of the individual required for that vacancy. Access to advisory and financial support will be provided to FE providers looking to recruit from outside of the sector, and support for individuals recruited from outside of FE will be made available through Business Talent.

Business Talent grew from Sir Andrew Foster's recommendations, which stressed the necessity of improving management and leadership in FE. The Foster Report, Leitch Review of Skills and FE White Paper all emphasised the importance of effective management and leadership in building successful FE and developing the skills of the UK workforce.

Business Talent will provide FE employers with the guidance and support to ensure they select the best applicants and match their needs to the skills of the individual. By participating in Business Talent, FE providers can strengthen their leadership and management teams and build a framework for future success.

Currently the project is in the final stages of development ready for launch in summer 2008. For more information about Business Talent, or to register an interest in participating, please email the project team.
