Government promises 20,000 more university places

The government has promised 20,000 more university places by 2011 to boost higher level skills.
Businesses and higher education are being encouraged to work together to create a 'stronger and fairer Britain'. To meet this challenge, Bill Rammell MP, Minister of State for Lifelong Learning, Further and Higher Education (DIUS) has launched a strategy to investigate the higher level skills that Britain demands. The strategy has recognised the central role of the sector skills councils (SSCs) in driving this demand.
