The work of LLUK in Northern Ireland
LLUK is responsible for workforce planning and for leading professional development in a workforce of approximately 16,200 staff in Northern Ireland across the following five areas of the lifelong learning sector:
- community learning and development (CLD), including community based adult learning, community development, community education, development education, family learning, working with parents, and youth work
- further education (FE)
- higher education (HE)
- libraries, archives and information services (LAIS)
- work based learning (WBL).
Information about key employers, partners and stakeholders in Northern Ireland for each part of the sector is available in a downloadable diagram. A list of key stakeholders and links to their websites, is also available.
In order to adequately represent the views of this diverse workforce, LLUK operates a series of advisory panels (one for each of the five areas above) and a UK-level board. LLUK staff also consult with the sector through employer bodies and networks, as well as influencing key stakeholders on behalf of the sector in the area of workforce development.
