Research strategy

Research is integral to our role as a Sector Skills Council. We undertake research to generate robust and reliable labour market intelligence about the lifelong learning sector across the four nations of the UK. This research helps us to:

  • compare current skills against the future needs of the workforce
  • identify skills gaps and shortages.

Not only does this impact on the standards and qualifications we produce, but it also informs workforce development policies at all levels.

The Research Strategy outlines our approach to all aspects of the research work that we do including: the role of research; resources; the strategic and operational principles of our research; how research is communicated and evaluated; and what our core research activities are.

We also publish an annual Research Plan outlining our research activities for each financial year.
