Learning Delivery National Occupational Standards

Lifelong Learning UK has developed standards in the area of Learning Delivery. These developments were in response to a high level steer from Senior Civil servants across all four nations. There are existing Professional Standards for Teachers, Tutors and Trainers in England and Wales, Professional Standards for Lecturers in Scotland's Colleges (Scottish Executive), and Professional Standards for Northern Ireland have recently been developed.

Concern was raised that independently developed Professional Standards may not articulate the common requirements of learning delivery across the four nations, and as a consequence may hinder the transferability of skills across borders. Consultations then took place to develop Standards that would:

  • Be comprehensive and inclusive of all of the existing professional standards
  • Be relevant to all learning delivery regardless of context or environment
  • Support the transferability of skills
  • Be a mechanism for sharing best practice in Learning Delivery across the UK.

These Standards were completed in March 2009, and the next stage will be to submit them for approval as National Occupational Standards in the Autumn of 2009, following the review of the Learning & Development National Occupational Standards.
