Learner Involvement standards

Learner Involvement National Occupational Standards

Lifelong Learning UK has introduced National Occupational Standards identifying the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to carry out Learner Involvement activities in the lifelong learning sector.

The new standards were introduced to support student liaison officer roles in further education but apply to a broad range of roles which people working in the lifelong learning sector might undertake.

These include:

. learner involvement - including representation, the 'Learner Voice
. learner engagement - including engaging communities where this is outside the scope of other functions
. learner contribution - enabling learners to have an impact on management and strategic direction of organisations
. learner support - including welfare, accommodation and signposting but excluding learning support
. learner enrichment activities - which broaden learning and development but aren't integral to an individual's primary learning objectives.

Organisations can use relevant parts of the National Occupational Standards to help them define roles and job descriptions, plan and support professional development and assess performance.

Occupational and functional maps related to Learner Involvement roles form the basis for these Standards.
