Exploring the impact of technology on learning
In February we began a conversation on Twitter by asking "How is technology changing the way we teach and learn?". People have been tweeting and blogging responses ever since, sharing their experiences from all areas of lifelong learning and as far afield as Japan and Australia.
On Friday 19 March we held a symposium at the British Library to carry on the conversation. The event invited experts to discuss the challenges of delivering learning in the 21st century and brought together colleagues from a variety of backgrounds including work based learning, libraries, community learning, universities and teacher training.
Bryony Taylor, Senior Policy Advisor for Technology Enhanced Learning at Lifelong Learning UK explains, "We called this symposium to bring together people from the disparate parts of this very large sector. We wanted to identify whether we are facing common issues with regard to keeping up with the pace of change and what we might do together to support the development of learning professionals."
"The discussions showed that people delivering learning in any capacity face the same challenges in the digital world. Perhaps the biggest challenge we identified was not around skills but mentality. Teachers and trainers need to become flexible and adaptable enough to learn alongside their learners whilst they give new technologies a go."
The report of the symposium event and the online conversation is now available here:
