Learning support
It has been estimated that there are over 50,000 learning support and learning resource staff working in the further education (FE) sector in England. Learning support makes an important contribution to the retention, achievement and progression of many learners.
National Occupational Standards for learning support practitioners
Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) has developed a set of draft National Occupational Standards (NOS) for learning support practitioners and a draft learning support role description document. The standards will contribute to the professionalisation of the learning support workforce and support a wider recognition of the valuable role it plays in learning and teaching.
Learning support roles
LLUK has produced a draft document defining the role of learning support practitioners, which includes information about learning support roles.
Professional development opportunities for learning support practitioners (Skills for Life)
Professional development qualifications developed within the Skills for Life framework at level 2 and 3 are still available but are currently being revised in order to provide a coherent progression route in the new qualification framework.
