14-19 Workforce Development
Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) and the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA) are working together as part of the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) 14 - 19 Workforce Development Partnership to:
- identify the generic skills, which will be required of practitioners in the school sector and FE System, who deliver the new Diplomas for 14-19 year-olds
- inform the development of continuing professional development (CPD) and initial teacher training (ITT) routes for Diploma practitioners.
- ensure Diploma practitioners can achieve 'occupational currency'
The partnership has produced several key documents to support the above remit.
Current work in progress includes:
- identifying regional CPD opportunities available for 14-19 practitioners (TDA)
- informing the development of CPD and ITT routes for Diploma practitioners
- producing Units of Assessment for Diploma teachers as the basis for CPD and ITT within the Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) framework*
- developing Diploma practitioners' 'occupational currency'.^
* The Units of Assessment will be at level 5 and are grouped as per the categories identified in the Training and Development Guidance (TDG) and used in the Training Needs Analysis (TNA): personalised learning; assessment; generic learning skills; information, advice and guidance; working collaboratively; developing reflective practice and an introductory unit.
^ A pilot Professional Development Programme: Occupational Currency for Practitioners of Diplomas for 14-19 Year Olds (Distance Learning Course) has been validated and is currently being delivered by Canterbury Christchurch University as of April 2008.
