Workforce Strategy for the Further Education Sector in England, 2007-2012
What is it?
The Workforce Strategy for the Further Education Sector in England will transform the workforce in the further education sector. Its purpose is to support employers in the sector in implementing their own workforce plans to ensure the delivery of excellent learning provision. The strategy sets out a vision of the future workforce and the priorities for action that will support the achievement of that vision.
Who is it for?
The strategy is relevant to anyone whose role is to support the development of the workforce in the further education sector.
Why has it been written?
The government has set the sector the twin challenges of widening participation in FE and upskilling the nation's workforce. This places the further education sector at the centre of aiding economic growth. In order to meet these challenges, the sector needs to ensure that its workforce is ready to respond to the needs of learners and employers. The workforce strategy will help the sector fulfil its role in the nation's success.
What do you need to do?
- If you are an employer in the sector, the strategy will help you in your own workforce planning. The Implementing the Workforce Strategy Guide for Learning Providers will help you to implement the strategy.
- If you are a national partner, the strategy will inform your work in providing support to sector employers.
What else are we doing?
Lifelong Learning UK has carried out an evaluation of the strategy to assess its continued relevance to the sector. We are also facilitating the design of a toolkit for the sector to support senior management in further education to implement the strategy in their own organisations.
