The Disability Equality Commitment

Maureen Mellor MBE becomes the first to sign up to the Disability Equality Commitment on behalf of Liverpool Community College (L-R: David Hunter, Chief Executive of Lifelong Learning UK, Maureen Mellor MBE, Paul Mackney, Chair of the DEIG)

Lifelong Learning UK established the Disability Equality Implementation Group (DEIG) alongside representatives from the lifelong learning sector, to take forward the recommendations of the Commission for Disabled Staff in Lifelong Learning. The Commission launched its final and summary reports in March 2008.

The recommendations of this report encourage all organisations in the lifelong learning sector to embrace fully the Disability Equality Duty, "even where that involves treating disabled persons more favourably than other persons". These recommendations will transform organisations for both staff and learners.
