Information for skills brokers

Train to Gain

Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) is the independent employer-led sector skills council responsible for the professional development of the 1 million+ staff working in community learning and development, further education, higher education, libraries, archives and information services, and work based learning across the UK.

LLUK provides the strategic perspective for workforce planning and development and sets standards for occupational competence in the delivery and support of learning. LLUK also leads the collation of workforce data and provides analysis on workforce characteristics and trends to better inform future workforce planning. We also work with partners and stakeholders to improve the dialogue between our employers and those looking to the lifelong learning sector to meet their own skills needs.

Within the Skills for Business Network, LLUK holds a unique position, representing both employers on the supply side of skills delivery and lifelong learning employers seeking to meet the continuous professional development needs of their own staff.

LLUK is not involved in delivering brokerage services as many of our employers are 'Train to Gain' providers. LLUK is involved, however, with the development of the Business Support Standards, which are part of the National Common Standards Framework for Business Support and Brokerage, and are being developed for, among others, the skills brokers who provide the 'Train to Gain' service.

Since 'Train to Gain' is a large, government-led programme, LLUK is interested in the impact of this programme on lifelong learning employers in England, particularly those providing 'Train to Gain' contracts, and will be considering this when implementing our Sector Skills Agreement and other workforce development activity.
