LLUK chair Sir David Melville awarded honourary degree

Professor Sir David Melville CBEProfessor Sir David Melville CBE, Lifelong Learning UK Chair, is among those receiving honorary degrees from the University of Kent today. The degree ceremonies that began yesterday are being held at Canterbury Cathedral. Sir David will be awarded the degree of Doctor of Civil Law honoris causa alongside Dr John Williams, Head of Heritage Conservation at Kent County Council. Journalist and author Sir Simon Jenkins, and international reporter Robert Fisk will be awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters.

Sir David has made outstanding contributions to further and higher education and was awarded a CBE in 2001 and a KBE in 2007. He has Honorary Degrees from Southampton, Derby, Middlesex and Sheffield Universities and this award is further recognition of his work in education management.

On receiving the Degree, Sir David said "I am particularly proud to be accepting this award. My time at Kent as Vice-Chancellor was one of the most enjoyable and productive of my career, and I have a deep personal affection for the region."
