LLUK to review National Occupational Standards for Community Development

26 June 2008

Lifelong Learning UK is currently undertaking a project to refresh the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for Community Development across the UK. The Community Development workforce is defined by Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) to include the paid staff and unpaid volunteers of employers directly delivering or supporting the delivery of lifelong learning, together with those employers whose primary engagement is not within the lifelong learning footprint but who employ staff engaged in Community Development and who legitimately look to LLUK for their occupationally specific standards.

The first generation of NOS for Community Development were developed by the Care Sector Consortium in 1995. The second generation of NOS for Community Development were developed by PAULO the former National Training Organisation (NTO) for Community Learning and Development and approved by the National Occupational Standards Board (NOSB) in 2002.

This generation of standards are now due for review, taking into account the normal five year timescale and changes in policy that have occurred over this period.

Working with a wider range of stakeholders and employers in the sector, LLUK will be undertaking extensive consultation with the Community Development sector later in 2008. This will involve both face to face and online consultations. Please check the LLUK website regularly for information about upcoming consultation events in your area.
