Implementation Plan: Accessible now

The Workforce Strategy for the further education (FE) sector in England, 2007-2012 sets out a vision for the workforce to deliver the ambition for the FE sector in England. Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) facilitated the development of an Implementation Plan for implementing the strategy - working in close partnership with key stakeholders and partner agencies.

The Implementation Plan aims to encourage all FE sector colleges and learning providers to implement their own workforce plans, shape a culture of continuous professional development and uphold the delivery of excellent learning provision.  It builds upon existing workforce reforms in the sector and captures the commitments made by stakeholders and partners.

This three-year plan specifies the actions and outcomes to take forward the strategic priorities and themes - identifying key responsibilities to deliver the ambitions set out in the Strategy. The first Implementation Plan aims to:

  • identify the value of bringing together different strands of workforce development in a single Plan for providers/employees

  • identify issues that needs to be tackled if the sector is going to achieve specific outcomes by 2010/2011

  • recognise that providers in the sector are at "different stages" in their workforce development and will therefore be looking for different types of support from the Implementation Plan

  • contain a checklist that providers can use to identify and source different types of actions for their own workforce development.

Partners involved in consultation have agreed to continue supporting delivery of the vision for a transformed FE workforce. Consequently, the Implementation Plan will be seen as a 'living document' and reviewed annually to stay abreast with any new developments in the sector.
