Overview of standards and qualifications
The Standards and Qualifications team at Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) works closely with employers and stakeholders across the UK to develop standards and qualifications in the lifelong learning sector. We are the UK-wide standards setting body and will be launching 50+ National Occupational Standards early in 2008.
LLUK is committed to meeting the needs of the lifelong learning workforce across all areas of our work and is involved in numerous projects to extend appropriate training to those entering the sector or undertaking professional development.
A major component of current activity in England is the reform of initial teacher/tutor/trainer education led by LLUK, which is closely linked to progress in Skills for Life professional development. Related mapping and review work is currently being undertaken in Scotland and Wales.
Similarly, LLUK supports the development of staff in leadership and management positions across the UK and delivering the new 14-19 diplomas in England. LLUK is also leading the development of the UK-wide sector qualifications strategy and is actively involved in information and learning technology and e-learning.
For those entering the profession, LLUK manages the certification of apprenticeships in England, Scotland and Wales, is involved in development work relating to foundation degrees in England and Wales, and offers advice on qualifications for careers in libraries and archives, as well as youth work and working with parents.
