Qualification Framework - Work Based Vocational Training Qualifications for Providers of Career, Information Advice and Guidance for Adults in England
The qualification framework is designed to cover the roles in the adult guidance sector in England, particularly those of the new Adult Advancement and Careers Service and wider network of partner agencies. The identified knowledge and skills are common across the UK and the generic nature of the units mean that they could be used when working with young people or adults in a career information, advice and employability support context or in the delivery of in-depth career guidance services.
The framework relates to work-based vocational qualifications only. Higher education routes will remain and continue to contribute to the broader qualification framework for the sector. The units can also be used for continuous professional development (CPD). Employers feel that CPD is a critically important means of up-skilling practitioners, and that the sector would benefit from more widespread recognition of and support for this.
The document relates to qualifications developed for the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). The structure of the qualifications meet the requirements of this framework and the proposed unit content is informed by the above mentioned research. The research highlighted perceived gaps identified by employers in existing qualifications and also gaps that exist in the current S/NVQ in advice and guidance when mapped against the Qualification in Career Guidance and the QAA Scottish Subject Benchmark Statement (2007).
