The new LAIS Qualifications

Library_Picture

In consultation with employers and other stakeholders, two new qualifications have been developed for assistants working in all libraries, archives and information services settings.

The qualifications are:
.    Level 2 Certificate in Libraries, Archives and Information Services (30 credits)
.    Level 3 Diploma in Libraries, Archives and Information Services (45 credits)

The qualifications have been designed to enable progression from level 2 to level 3, and  there are level 4 units within the level 3 qualification, to enable learners to develop some of the higher level academic skills they would need if they wish to progress to Higher Education.

The qualifications have been created in line with the new Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) to reflect the skills needed by assistants across the Libraries, Archives and Information Services sector.

What next?
