Revised Community Development standards
Lifelong Learning UK has updated the National Occupational Standards for the community development workforce. These identify the skills, knowledge and understanding needed to carry out community development roles in the lifelong learning sector.
These 'third generation' standards reflect changes in legislation and working practices within the sector, and establish achievable benchmarks for individual practice. They were reviewed and revised through consultation with employers and representative bodies across the UK community learning and development sector, and in partnership with the Federation for Community Development Learning.
The standards cover a broad range of roles and settings, and apply to both paid staff and volunteers working in, or managing people in, a community development role. They also apply to people who employ a community development approach within another profession or occupation.
Organisations and individuals can use relevant parts of the National Occupational Standards to help them define roles and job descriptions, plan and support professional development and assess performance.
