LLUK launch in Wales
Lifelong Learning UK was launched in Wales at the Millennium Centre, Cardiff, on 28 September, 2005 and photographs of the event are available.
Speaking at the launch, attended by lifelong learning employers and representatives of other organisations from throughout Wales, Jane Davidson, Minister for Education and Lifelong Learning, said the Welsh Assembly Government had high expectations of LLUK. "We are working very closely with Lifelong learning UK through the strategic partnership agreement," she said. "I have considerable expectations of them as they face the challenge to ensure that the standards and qualifications of people who deliver training in the lifelong learning sector as second to none."
LLUK was well placed to embrace the contrasting needs and challenges facing learning professionals in different parts of the UK, said LLUK Chief Executive, David Hunter. "Our priority is to give our employers a voice and enable us to truly represent our workforce." He added: "We are committed to helping all staff . to participate in initial training and continuing professional development. This is not just as an end in itself, but a recognition of the knock-on effect that it will have on the rest of the workforce."
John Hedger, chair of LLUK, added: "By offering employers in the wider economy a better skilled workforce, we can help Wales, along with the rest of the UK, to compete more effectively internationally."
LLUK's operations in Wales are headed by learning and development specialist Michelle Sayers, who is also chair of the Skills for Business Network in Wales
