Press release re Wales country panel
Libraries chief chairs Welsh employers panel - Thursday, 15th June, 2005
Alan Watkin, Chief Officer for leisure, libraries and culture at Wrexham Council, is to chair a new panel representing lifelong learning employers throughout Wales. The panel will advise Lifelong Learning UK on issues surrounding workforce development.
Also a member of LLUK's national Council, Alan Watkin said the panel would have a strong influence on the work of LLUK and ensure that training and development of the lifelong learning workforce is appropriate to the skills challenges facing Wales.
"I'm delighted by the breadth of the panel's membership, as well as its geographical spread, which will allow us to bring a variety of perspectives to the issues we discuss," he added.
The panel includes employers and key stakeholder partners from all five constituencies within lifelong learning, as well as Felicity Williams, general secretary of the Welsh TUC. It will meet at least three times per year.
Michelle Sayers, LLUK's National Manager in Wales, said she was looking forward to working closely with the panel and hearing the views of employers. "I'm confident that it will provide us with a real spur in driving forward the lifelong learning agenda in Wales," she said.
