LLUK Strategy
If the UK is to be world-class and is going to achieve the ambitions for its economy and for social cohesion, as laid out by the governments of the four nations, then it must have an excellent skills supply system. LLUK's specific and unique role is pivotal to enabling the skills supply system to increase in quality and capacity to meet the challenges set across the UK. The Rt. Hon. Alan Johnson MP, former Secretary of State for Education and Skills, said:
"We won't create world class skills in Britain without world-class trainers. This shines a spotlight on LLUK."
Thus, our vision is that: the UK lifelong learning workforce will be the best in the world.
So that UK employers have access to the skills and knowledge needed for a prosperous economy and an inclusive and self-fulfilled society, our mission is to:
enable lifelong learning employers to recruit, retain, develop and apply suitably skilled and effective staff, and act as a broker with the other sector skills councils in the Alliance of Sector Skills Councils.
To do this we have a clear set of goals and strategic objectives:
LLUK goals
- to reduce skills gaps and shortages
- to increase opportunities to boost the skills and productivity of everyone in the sector
- to improve productivity, business and public service performance
- to improve learning supply
- to improve LLUK's performance and delivery
LLUK strategic objectives
- Raise employer engagement, demand and investment in skills
- Ensure authoritative labour market information for the sector
- Build the capacity and capability of the sector
- Develop and promote national occupational standards and ensure qualifications meet employer needs
- Ensure internal systems and procedures support effective performance and delivery
