Learning for living and work teachers
Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) is developing an accredited professional development qualification for learning for living and work teachers (who work with learners with cognitive learning difficulties) within the new teacher qualification framework.
Three units of assessment are currently available as optional units of assessment within initial teacher education or as a professional development qualification for those who support the literacy, language and numeracy needs of learners with cognitive learning difficulties.
Further information on these units can be found in the Endorsement section of the Standards Verification UK (SVUK) website.
An application of the generic teaching standards for these teachers is in the final stages of revision. This will underpin the professional development qualification.
During 2007-08, LLUK will be working with the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and awarding institutions to develop qualifications for those who work with disabled learners. The qualifications will focus on the literacy, language and numeracy needs of these learners.
Further information about this work can be obtained by contacting the NRP team by email.
