Addressing literacy, language, numeracy and ICT needs in education and training: the minimum core

The minimum core defines the knowledge, understanding and personal skills in literacy, language, numeracy and information and communication technologies (ICT) all teachers should have to support learner achievement.
Teachers who are required to work towards Qualified Teacher, Learning and Skills (QTLS) will undertake teaching qualifications, which incorporate all of the minimum core. This includes all teachers of literacy, numeracy and English for speakers of other languages (ESOL).
Teachers who are required to work towards Associate Teacher, Learning and Skills (ATLS) will undertake teaching qualifications, which incorporate the personal skill elements of the minimum core.
Guidance to support teachers to address literacy, language and numeracy needs can be found in a companion guide.
